Planning for God’s Work. Our Hands. Day

On Sunday, September 7, we will join 9,100 congregations participating in “God’s work. Our Hands” Day. Across the country and in our local community, thousands of members will engage in service work to make a positive change in our communities and share God’s love in the world. Join us as we do God’s work with our hands!

Christ Lutheran Church is collecting items for clean-up or “flood” buckets, a shared ministry with other congregations in our Synod – and with Lutheran Disaster Response of Eastern PA. We’ll gather after worship that day – in the Chapel – to assemble everything and enjoy refreshments as we work. We hope you will all help in this worthwhile project! Our needs are in the link below. All sign-ups are being tracked through this link so that our resources are as up-to-date as possible.

Members and friends are asked to contribute the items needed by September 3. Please be sure to let us know what you drop off or are planning to bring! We each contribute items included in the buckets, not a complete list. The 30-buckets needed were already graciously donated! Items should be dropped off in the Chapel hallway. All sign ups during the week and on Sundays will be via the link below.

When you use the link below you will:

  1. select the item

  2. enter the quantity you are bringing

New Bible Study Forming

There have been several requests for an in-person, evening Bible study – so we can include people who work during the day – so let’s do it! Beginning Wednesday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m., we will meet in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Paulette will offer an interactive Bible study and discussion. A good topic to begin with is “Women of the Bible” – why not? We will first focus on women in the Old Testament. Let’s see how it works and go from there. People can park in the parking lot and enter through the Main Office entry. Contact Pastor Paulette or the church office if you’re interested in attending or to learn more.

Celebrating God’s Abundance

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 16, 2023

We are deeply grateful for the generous people that have supported the ministry of Christ Lutheran Church for 120 years. The story of God’s abundance spans many times, families, connections. Considering joining this faith community?

Learn more about how current members found Christ Lutheran Church and why they choose to navigate their faith journey at Christ Lutheran Church!

  • How did Christ Church become your congregation?

When I was a kid (80s), my parents and I came to Christ Lutheran because we only lived a few blocks away on N. Madison St. I was baptized Lutheran at the former St. Michael’s Lutheran in Allentown (9th & Turner Sts.). It has been our home church ever since. I still attend virtually from my home in North Carolina.

  • Why do you find it important to support Christ Church with time and generosity?

I believe that Christ Church is trying to better the lives of people in downtown Allentown. My late wife was involved in the afterschool program for many years. She was looking forward to be able to spend more time with it once she retired. Obviously, many things changed since early 2020 but I do believe the church is supporting many programs to help people and I think that is worth supporting.

  • If someone asked you about your church, what would you tell them or how would you invite them?

12th Night is a great introduction to CLC because it is such a beautiful production. However, a “normal” Sunday service is moving with the readings, message, and choir, making it a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and guests. I also think my CLC family who attend services make visitors feel welcome, and of course coffee and fellowship after the service.

  • Why do you find it important to support Christ Church with time and generosity?

Jesus told us to provide love and help to those who need it. We must open our hearts to others and accept differences.

  • If someone asked you about your church, what would you tell them or how would you invite them?

If someone asked us about Christ Church, we would tell them about the programs the church is involved in, our great choir, bell choir and our outreach ministry.

  • When Christ Church comes to mind, who is/are the first person(s) that pop into your mind?

Naturally, the first person that comes to mind is George Boyer. I also greatly appreciated the ministry team led by Pastor Walter Wagner. I am passionate about learning and Pastor Wagner provided thought-provoking sermons and leadership. I also think of other pastors who have provided meaningful sermons over the years.
